又是申请季什么是EA,ED和RD

　　美国大学申请方式分为三大类：提前申请、常规录取和滚动申请。

　　一、提前申请

　　提前申请是有最多讲究的一类，也是让申请美国本科的同学们最摸不着头脑的一类。常见的提前申请主要分为：提前决定Early Decision (ED)和提前行动Early Action (EA)。提前申请的截止时间一般是11月1日，有的学校是11月15日，还有少数学校有不同规定;提前申请发布结果的时间一般是12月15日左右。

　　(一)提前决定--ED

　　英文是Early Decision，简称为ED。比较权威的英文解释是这样说的：Early Decision is a type of early admission process for admission to colleges and universities in the United States. Unlike the regular admissions process, early action usually requires students to submit an application by November 1 of their senior year of high school instead of January 1. Students are notified of the school's decision by mid-December instead of April 1. Early decision is a binding commitment and if accepted, you must attend that school.This is not recommended unless you absolutely know for sure that this will be your first choice school.

　　要正确把握Early Decision，需要记住以下几个关键点：

　　1. Deadline。一般来说，ED1的截止日期是11月1日，ED2的截止日期是1月1日。申请结果，ED1在12月中旬出来，ED2在2月中旬出来。

　　2. 和一所大学的捆绑承诺。申请ED的同学，只能选择一所大学以ED的方式申请，在申请时必须签署Early Decision Agreement(需学生本人，学生家长，school counselor三方签字)，一旦签署，意味着你做出这样的承诺：该大学是我的第一选择，如果该学校录取了我，我一定会报到入学。

　　3. 绝对唯一。当同学们申请ED的时候，在任何时间段，你只能有一所正在进行的ED申请，也就是说，你不能同时申请两个ED的学校。

　　4. 时不同，性质同。部分大学的ED有ED1, ED2之分，意即，你若被A大学的ED1拒绝，你可以再申请B大学的ED2。无论ED1还是ED2都遵循ED的绝对唯一和捆绑承诺的原则。提供ED1,ED2的大学有：Emory University in Atlanta, Gorgia; Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg; Tufts University in Massachusetts; Brandeis University in Massachusetts; Lehigh University(PA);

　　University of Rochester(NY); Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute(NY); George Washington University(DC)等。

　　5. 可与EA巧妙同步。很多同学问：既然我不能申请多个学校的ED，但我又不甘心提前申请只递交一个大学，我能不能同时申请其他学校的EA?大多数大学的ED Agreement只说明同一时间不能有第二个ED申请，并没有明确说明不能进行其他学校的EA申请，在这种情况下，同学们可以同时申请其他学校的EA，但一定要是非绑定的EA。

　　6. 与常规兼容。学生申请ED的时候，可以申请别的学校的常规录取，即RD。但是，一旦你被ED录取以后，你必须立即撤回正在进行的申请，也不能进行任何新的学校的申请。

　　7. 反悔条件。也有同学问：我现在是认定A大学就是我的第一选择，可是人都有变化的时候，如果我真被A大学的ED录取了，我真就没有任何机会反悔了吗?答案是：可以反悔，但只有一个条件下可以反悔：只有当你申请了需求奖学金(need-based financial aid)，但学校没有给你所要求的奖学金，你因为缺少资金而无法入学的条件下，你才有权利拒绝学校的ED录取。

　　8. 严重后果。被ED录取的学生，必须入学报到(可以以申请Gap year等方式延期入学)。违背ED协定的情况，比如同时申请了2所学校的ED，学校有权利取消你的ED资格甚至入学资格。

　　(二)提前行动--EA

　　英文是Early Action，简称为EA。权威的英文解释是这样说的：Early action is another type of early admission process for admission to colleges and universities in the United States.

　　Unlike the regular admissions process, early action usually requires students to submit an application by November 1 of their senior year of high school instead of January 1.

　　Students are notified of the school's decision by mid-December instead of April 1. There are two types of early action programs: restrictive early action and non-restrictive

　　early action. Restrictive EA allows candidates to apply to only one early action institution and to no institutions early decision, while, as the name implies, there are no such

　　restrictions on non-restrictive early action. Regardless, the applicant is still permitted to reject any offer of admission in both types of early action.

　　提前行动Early Action可分为non-restrictive early action，restrictive early action(也有大学叫Single-Choice Early Action)。

　　要充分理解Early Action，需掌握下列关键点：

　　1. Deadline。一般来说，EA的截止日期都是11月1日。

　　2. 无捆绑承诺。申请EA的同学，无论是non-restrictive early action还是restrictive early action/Single-Choice Early Action，在申请时，无需签订协定，因此也并不要求学生做出保证报道入学的承诺。学生一般要求在每年5月1日前答复是否接受此学校的录取结果。

　　3. Non-restrictive early action，没有任何排他性，即不限制你同时申请其他学校的提前申请，比如芝加哥大学的EA，乔治城大学的EA就是non-binding;但如果你选择的其他学校是Single-choice Early Action或Restrictive Early Action(REA)，比如耶鲁大学，你就必须遵守耶鲁的约定，不能再申请芝加哥大学的EA了。

　　4. Single-choice Early Action和Restrictive Early Action是两种极其特殊的提前行动，是具有排他性的，即限制你申请其他学校的EA和ED。因此，你一旦选择了Single-choice Early Action和Restrictive Early Action，就不能再申请其他学校的ED、EA了。

　　5. 巧妙保底。一般，我们在申请ED时，都选择的是自己最钟情的大学，是属于自己的Reach校(即，你要十分努力，外加三分幸运才能够得着的学校)，而EA，我们可以非常巧妙地选择自己的Match校(即自己的硬件条件，软件条件差不多能够得上的大学)，一旦录取，这个学校可以成为我们的保底校，有了offer做保底，心态是绝对不一样的。

　　6. 当EA被拒后，你可以申请第二轮的ED II以及RD。

　　7. 学生申请EA的时候，可以申请别的学校的正常录取RD，当你被EA录取以后，不必撤回正在进行的其他申请、也可以再做其他新的学校的RD申请。

　　二、常规录取Regular Decision

　　一般来讲，常规录取的截止日期是次年的1月1日，得到结果的时间是次年4月1日。权威的英文解释如下：Apply by the regular deadline stated (normally January 1st) and you will be notified

　　in April of the decision.If you are deferred from Early Decision or Early Action, you will be placed in Regular Decision。

　　常规录取无任何关于捆绑承诺和唯一排他的性质，可以同时申请多所大学的常规录取，录取后，可自行决定去或不去。

　　三、滚动申请Rolling Admission

　　滚动申请，即，在有空位的情况下接受申请。先到先审制;以循环方式，入学申请没有一定的截止日期，申请资料随时寄到就随时开始审核，以录满当年的名额限制为准。

　　Rolling admission applicants are often notified of their acceptance or rejection within a few weeks of applying. A college with rolling admission typically accepts applications for as long as spaces are available.

　　滚动申请也无绑定，排他限制。
