2017年015-年美国大学本科申请Essay Prompts文书题目

  COMMON APPLICATION是美国大学通用申请系统,日前该系统公布了2015-2016年申请题目(Essay Prompts),与之前相比题目发生了些微变化,变化的缘由则来自于一份关于申请题目的调查。变化之后的申请题目是怎样的呢?这份调查的结果是什么?我们一起来看看具体内容。

  We are pleased to share the 2015-2016 Essay Prompts with you. New language appears in italics:

  很高兴在这里和大家分享2015-2016年美国大学本科申请的题目(Essay Prompts)。斜体部分是今年题目新增的内容。

  1.Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

  对有的人来说,背景、身份、心情或才能是如此重要。如果没有这些,这个人的申请就不能算是完整。如果你也有同感,请和我们分享你的故事。

  2.The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

  失败是成功之母。讲述你的一次失败的经历,并说明这次失败怎样影响你,你从这次失败中学会了什么。

  3.Rlect on a time when you challenged a beli or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?

  请回忆一次你挑战某种观点或信念的经历。是什么促使你这么做?如果再给你一次机会重新选择,你是否仍然会这么做?

  4.Describe a problem you’ve solved or a problem you’d like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.

  请描述你解决过或者希望解决的一个难题。这个难题可以是智力挑战、研究问题或是道德问题,范围不限。请解释它对你的重要性,你解决问题采取的措施或者找出解决方案。

  5.Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

  请讨论一下发生在你的文化、社区、家庭范围之内的标志着你变得成熟的一个成就或一件事。这件事可以是正式的或者非正式的。

  The changes you see rlect the feedback and consensus of nearly 6000 individuals who responded to our recent survey. Among the survey highlights:

  *197 individual Member responses representing 110 Member institutions

  受访者中有197人是成员代表,来自110个成员机构。

  *5667 constituent responses (64% school counselors; 14% students; 11% independent educational consultants; 4% parents; 2% community based organizations; remainder = other)

  其余5667名普通受访者构成(64%为学校辅导员;14%是学生;11%是独立教育咨询者;4%为父母;2%为社区组织)

  *82% of Members and 90% of constituents agree or strongly agree that the current prompts generate fective essays on the whole

  *62% of Members and 48% of constituents believe the “story/background” prompt is the most fective

  62%的机构成员和48%的普通受访者认为“故事/背景”题目是最有实际作用的。

  *76% of Members and 44% of constituents would like to see the “place where you’re content” prompt replaced

  76%的机构成员和44%的普通受访者希望把“最满意的地方”这题目换掉。

  *35% of Members and 30% of constituents feel that analytical ability and intellectual curiosity (as a combined percentage) are most the difficult attributes to convey through the current prompts

  35%的机构成员和30%的普通受访者觉得当前的题目难以看出申请者的分析能力和求知欲。

  *85% of Members and 82% of constituents feel the prompts should be lt open to broad interpretation

  85%的机构成员和82%的普通受访者认为这些题目可以开放一些。

  *3% of Member respondents suggested Topic of Your Choice as a new prompt

  3%的机构成员建议把自选话题作为新增题目。

  *6% of constituent respondents suggested Topic of Your Choice as a new prompt, with the breakdown as follows: independent educational consultants (47%), community-based organizations (7%), school counselors (5%), parents (2%), other (2%), students (<1%)

  6%的普通受访者建议把自选话题作为新增题目,这些受访者构成:47%为独立教育咨询人员,7%为社区组织,5%为学校辅导员,2%为父母,其他人员占2%,学生比重低于1%。
