For more than 100 years, the institution has been providing a high quality education, with a strong emphasis on employment and careers, and firmly based on the needs of the economy of London.

Based in the centre of London and close to some of the best cultural, social and sports facilities, LSBU offers a rich and diverse student experience.

Academic strengths

The University is divided into the following faculties: the Faculty of Business, Computing and Information Management; the Faculty of Engineering, Science and the Built Environment; the Faculty of Health and Social Care; and the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science.

London South Bank has particular specialities in health, computing, engineering, applied science, architecture, construction and estate management, business studies, social sciences, arts and the humanities, as well as a programme of combined honours degrees.

Facilities

There are four major library collections in the University. In total there are more than 500,000 volumes and the University now subscribes to almost 3,000 current journals.

There are a number of IT installations around the University; the most central and the largest open access facility is the learning resources centre (LRC) on Borough Road, at the heart of the Southwark site.

The Sports Department and Athletic Union give students a choice of sporting clubs, programmes and facilities. Indoor sports facilities include a fitness suite with more than 40 exercise machines and a dedicated free weights training room. The University also has its own sports ground, which provides football, rugby and cricket pitches.

The University has 1400 bedrooms located across four student residences, all within a 10 minute walk of the Southwark campus. All the accommodation provided is in bedrooms, located within self-contained flats.

LOCATION

London South Bank University is situated in central London on the South Bank of the River Thames, near Waterloo Station and the Elephant and Castle. The whole South Bank area has undergone extensive development and could now be considered one of the most exciting areas of London. Covent Garden is only minutes away by bus, and the University is connected to the heart of the city by two tube lines (Northern and Bakerloo), which means students are a short ride away from the wealth of entertainment and cultural activities available in London. Mainline railways at Waterloo, London Bridge and Elephant Castle are also all within ten minutes walk.

The University s facilities are all located in one central area, giving the University a campus feel in the heart of London. The 4 University residences are also all within 10-15 minutes walk of the campus.

ACCOMMODATION

The University has 4 halls of residences, all within walking distance of the University. Accommodation is provided in the form of self-contained flats each accommodating between three to nine students. They are all self-catering and all rooms are single study bedrooms. There are no shared rooms or facilities for couples or families within the halls of residence. The flats are usually single sex but a small number may be mixed.

The University guarantees accommodation to international applicants who have firmly accepted an unconditional offer and who apply by August 1st.

A small number of flats are normally reserved for postgraduate and mature undergraduate students within the halls. Demand for these rooms is very high and they are allocated to students who meet the selection criteria on a first come first served basis so an early application is recommended.
