美国留学杜克大学商务基础专业解析

最近遇见很多学生咨询，考虑去美国读商科研究生，一般学生选择金融学专业，但是全美TOP30的院校里，有金融学专业的学校只有6所，去年哥大的继续教育学院增设了企业风险管理专业(M.S. Enterprise Risk Management)，即使如此，学生们可以选择的学校也是很少，那么除了这些学校以外，还有什么学校的项目可以选择呢，以下介绍一所著名的读大学 杜克大学。

杜克大学没有金融学专业，但是有商业基础专业(MMS: Foundations of Business)，这个专业也是满足大多数学商科学校的要求，可以作为申请学校之一。先来简单介绍一下杜克大学。杜克大学是美国最优秀的大学之一，且为美国南部最好的私立大学。该校长期排名美国前十，世界综合大学第20的位置，商学院全美排名13、MBA全美第4。杜克大学的MMS专业为期10个月，项目的设置主要是为了学生就业设立，学校有专门的career center，为学生们就业服务，有3个faculty是专门来负责MMS项目的，帮助学生们制作简历，面试准备，介绍校友等。学生们毕业后找工作基本上不成问题。

下面分为3部分来介绍MMS这个专业：课程设置、申请要求、项目费用。

一、课程情况

杜克大学的商业基础专业设置在Fuqua商学院下面，该项目时长共计10个月，7月份开始到次年5月初结束。共分为5个term，每个term 6周时长，且每个term需要上3门课。具体课程见以下介绍。课程难度对于本身学金融的学生不算太难，对于学文科的学生来讲，难度还是有的;此外，课程密集度很大，非常强调teamwork.

申请截止日期：

申请截止共分为3轮，第一轮截止日期：2015.10.30(建议赶在第一轮截止日期前申请);第二轮：2016.1.29;第三轮：2016.3.1

申请材料：成绩单、在读证明/学位证毕业证、语言成绩、GMAT/GRE,文书，资金证明等;

文书要求：1篇简历，2封推荐信，3个小问题，1-2篇essay

Why are you pursuing the MMS degree at this stage in your professional development? 为甚么选择该项目?

What are your immediate career goals after completing the MMS program? 完成该项目后你当下目标是什么?

Life is full of uncertainties, and plans and circumstances can change. As a result, navigating a career requires you to be adaptable. Should the immediate goals that you provided above not materialize, what alternative directions have you considered? 生活充满不确定性因素，计划和环境随时可能改变，那么，如果完成学业后你上述所提到的当下目标不能实现时，你考虑过其他的目标方向吗?

需要回答2篇essay

Required Essay 1 完成一份25个题目的表格，不能超过2页，你的回答根据这25个随机的问题可长可短。 25 Random Things About Yourself 是让招生官了解你的个性，背景，特殊才能，天赋，能力。同时，申请人可以与招生官分享自己重要的人生经历、喜好、爱好、成就、有趣的故事后者其他帮助招生官了解自己的事情。

Instructions: Present your response in list form, numbered from 1 - 25. Some points may only be a few words, while others may be longer. Your complete list should not exceed 2 pages.

Question: The Team Fuqua spirit and community is one of the things that set the Fuqua experience apart, and it is a concept that extends beyond the student body to include faculty, staff, and administration. When a new person joins the Admissions Team, we ask that person to share with everyone in the office a list of 25 Random Things About Yourself. As an Admissions team, we already know the new hire's professional and academic background, so learning these 25 Random Things helps us to get to know someone's personality, background, special talents, and more.

In this spirit, the Admissions Committee also wants to get to know you beyond the professional and academic achievements listed in your resume and transcript. You can share with us important life experiences, your likes/dislikes, hobbies, achievements, fun facts, or anything that helps us understand what makes you who you are.

Required Essay 2 从以下题目里二选一，不能超过500个字。

Instructions: From the two options below, choose only one of the questions to answer. Your response to either essay question should be no more than 500 words, with a font size of no less than 10-point. Respond fully and concisely using 1.5 line spacing. Do not copy the essay question in the document you upload with your application.

Option 1 Question: Fuqua商学院给学生提供各种就业帮助，你如何利用这些资源来实现自己的职业目标?(回答此问题时可以强调自己之前找工作或者实习的经历所用到的策略)

The motto of Fuqua s Career Management Center is Fueled by Fuqua, Driven by You. There are many career resources available to students that can help you dine your career path and manage your job search. Resources include industry and career focused clubs, the Duke Alumni network, individual career coaching sessions, corporate presentations, and more. How will you utilize the career resources available to you at Fuqua to achieve your career goals? You may wish to highlight strategies you have used in your previous internship and job searches as well.

Option 2 Question: 商业基础这个项目学生背景多元化，各具特色，学生们可以将自身的优势价值带到这个项目中。这样学生们在这个项目中或项目外的社团活动中互相学习，那么，你如何融入到这个群里中，又是如何将你的背景及经历产生的价值影响到其他同学呢?(此问题要阐述清楚自己的优势是什么，价值是什么，能为这个项目带来什么)

The MMS: FOB program is shaped each year by the diversity of the class. Students bring a unique combination of professional and personal experiences that add value to the learning environment. By engaging with each other, MMS: FOB students grow personally as well as professionally over the course of the program. The admissions team is looking for students who are eager to engage with, and learn from, one another both inside the classroom and through their involvement in extracurricular activities. How will you be engaged as a student (both in and out of the classroom), and how will your background and previous experiences add value to the experience of your fellow students?
