There were many times that I was walking in the streets and lanes of Beijing in the winter evenings with dozens of detergent bottles (the gift for the interviewees) and questionnaires on back to conduct door-to-door Interview. My shoulders were frazzled, numerous of rusals, sometimes even the offensive utterance, I had cried. However, what printed in my mind was the happiness of completing a questionnaire successfully. What had sustained me when I felt exhausted was my adherence to my passion. I am gratul for such experience. It had laid me a sound foundation for my later study and work. The basic work training had improved my communication skills by communicating with the consumers directly. Moreover, I got to know the basic knowledge in all walks of fields in society, and more importantly, it exercised my willpower greatly.
My first contact with advertising can be traced back to 2001 when I was still a sophomore in University for Nationalities. I applied for a part-time market interviewer in Synovate China by chance. As a large –scale professional survey organization in the field, I received professional training. In the first half year, I almost participated in all the surveys, including focus group, street intercept interview, door to door interview, Telephone Interview and so on. In order to improve myself in a comprehensive way, I asked to undertake the most challenging jobs .To the interviewer, the most awul thing was to conduct the street intercept interview in the bad weather. Strong appetency and communication skills were badly needed in conducting the interview on the qualified passers-by in street with several bri questions and make them comply with my request to finish the 40 minutes questionnaires. Difficult as it was, I was often the NO.I in street intercept interview program. In later project implementation, I learnt how to design the questionnaires, how to find out the audience group of certain products and figure out the common traits of these people. Further more, I helped the advertising company evaluate the broadcasting fects of valuable media TouchPoints in the common traits.
After my graduation in 2002, I was recruited by W&K advertising company. As the AE, I was exposed to many other aspects of advertising. AE is a profession that full of challenge and funny. I must communicate with my clients in a quick and kind way. Moreover, I must draw out media promotion strategies and implementation plans independently so as to provide the coming month strategic support for my clients. In W&K resource service platform, I come to know that our work not only means to finish the assigned tasks, but to set up the interaction and cooperation involving in customers, media, consulting ,survey and so on. In 2003, in the process of comparing Zhonmai S &T (health care products enterprise) annual completed cases and advertising performance, I proposed to exhibit the fects of health care products with visualized signs so as to establish the connection between products and images in the process of broadcasting, which were highly praised by the decision-making personnel. My one year work in W&K advertising company made me realize how the advertising company to maximized the customer’s information in accordance with their requirement from a practical viewpoint , how to design the valuable and creative broadcasting way and corresponding contents. In a new lose weight products broadcasting program, I suggested that we develop the best touchpoints of the products for the consumer--design the frame of the product logo in the shopping mall post, so the females who love beauty (main consumers) could look much slimmer bore shopping .By so doing , the females would have the psychology to buy the products . Its good implementation proved that my ideas were feasible.
I have to admit that my previous college degree program in Computer Science have helped me a lot in my work. However, What I need is professional training in advertising, which has become a demanding problem in my job. My eagerness for new way of broadcasting and how to integrate the broadcasting points in consumer-oriented design made the absorption of more new advertising classic theories my short-term goal, and the plan of receiving advanced training burgeoned in my mind. In May 2004, with excellent performance top 3 (among 436 applicants), I was admitted into advertising college of Communication University of China (the most prestigious higher learning institutes in advertising). With the support of systematical marketing, broadcasting theory system, I had a better understanding to advertising. The coursework like, Consumer Psychology, Consumer Behaviors, Media practice attracted me deeply. In my spare time, I also read a lot of related books, from which I studied the consumer’s behavior from the angles of Psychology and Sociology, how to find the valuable broadcasting points from the Marketing and Broadcasting viewpoints as well as how to apply them into advertising broadcasting so as to maximize the broadcasting value. My thesis analyzed the new media broadcasting model and audience media contacting habit. By taking it as one aspect of integrated marketing broadcasting, I probed the contents of the lift media information broadcasting, way of broadcasting, and finally proposed information broadcasting of lift media as the integrated marketing broadcasting. It was evaluated as the excellent thesis. In addition, I also took some part-time jobs to enhance my research ability.
As I delved deeper into my subject, I came to acquire an increasingly profound understanding of the nature of advertising. As a matter of fact, advertising is an art of persuasion, concerned with how the advertiser can influence the behavior and value orientation of the general public with his individually unique mentality and perspective. Advertising is the art of communication, communicating with arts and clients. However, I found that many broadcasting lack of certain spirit and value. There are mainly two problems in broadcasting field, one is easy to know but difficult to take action, the phenomenon of stereotype or copying others exists in advertising, most of which are not in line with China’s reality. The Advertising Company often educates clients and consumers. When the results are not so fective, they will scold the clients or consumers. The other is difficult to know but easy to take action. The advertisers like to work on experience, or instinct, or to please the audience and clients but not to serve the clients, which make the fickle consumers and clients more flippancy.
I have got to know that profession knowledge is the root of success and the importance of integrating theory with practice. Besides, the study in college has made me know how to study, and more importantly, it has endowed me with the interest and ability to life study, therore, in order to make solid knowledge and thought preparation, I am eagerly hope to further my study in your esteemed university. China’s ever-expanding advertising market urgently demands that a large number of highly qualified professionals can work for its mature development. At present, there are only a very limited number of advertising professionals with international advertising background, who are familiar with the rich Oriental native culture, with China&aposs national characteristics, and with China&aposs existing advertising conditions on one hand, and possess advanced advertising knowledge of the West, able to fectively integrate the highly developed and original Western advertising ideas with Chinese context on the other hand.
It is precisely against this backdrop that I, equipped with a solid groundwork (at once theoretical and empirical) in the field of advertising acquired from my undergraduate education, wish to apply for a graduate program. My motivation is fairly simple: only the United States, a country with the most unparalleled development in advertising industry and the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in mass communication of which advertising is a part, can offer the necessary environment in which I can mature toward my professional goals. I hope that, by pursuing an in-depth study and research in the United States in the field of advertising, I can become the kind of person who can combine the strengths from Chinese and Western cultures and employ those strengths in the creation of perfect advertisements in the future
