Dear Sir or Madam:
I consider it a great pleasure to recommend to you Mr. Faradday Wang as a worthy candidate for admission to your Graduate School. I am a researcher and supervisor of doctoral candidates at Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), and I have been Mr. Wang‘s advisor of undergraduate program.
More than one year ago, with the best academic record, Mr. Wang was selected from the experimental class to study in the Department of Computer Science, and therore became one of my students. He is the only undergraduate student that I have ever supervised. His independent thinking, outstanding ability of solving problems in the scientific researches, however, have deeply impressed me. In the past year, along with three postgraduate students and three doctoral candidates, he has participated in the "Mobile Packet Radio Network (MPRN)", a key project at the national level of which I have been taking charge. He worked together with a doctoral candidate on the kernel of the project: the implementation of Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) on the VxWorks system. Mr. Wang‘s particular assignment was the implementation of SNMP at the Client Terminal. A highly challenging job, it requires fluent application of various data structures and computation approaches, a profound understanding of SNMP, and sound grounding in VxWorks and its development tool Tornado II. With solid professional foundation and extraordinary independent research ability, Mr. Wang finished his part excellently. So far, as one of the research results, the paper "The Implementation of SMNP Based on VxWorks Real-Time System", of which he is one of the co-authors, has been submitted to an academic journal: Computer Engineering and Science, and is expected to appear on the first issue of this journal next year.
What I am satisfied with is far more than his ability in the research. He has displayed good understanding of cooperation and teamwork. Regardless of his independent research ability, he has attached great importance to communication and discussion with his fellow team members. He was always the most active speaker at each seminar, during which he could express himself clearly and was ready to listen to others‘ opinions. I can say that he is very open-minded. And it was this open-mindedness that has helped him establish mutual aid and harmonious cooperation with the postgraduate students and doctoral candidates in the group.
Perhaps the only limitation in Mr. Wang is that he sometimes seems to suffer from an impetuous character. Occasionally he fails to develop a precise command of certain details in some technical areas. But this seems comparatively minor in view of the tremendous potential for future development that he possesses.
Last but not least, I‘d like to stress Mr. Wang‘s competence in English. He passed CET-6 (the highest level of a national college English test) while still in grade to, whereas most college students are only required to pass CET-4 in their four-year study. What‘s more, while conducting heavy lab researches, he spent merely one month preparing TOEFL and GRE, and got quite good scores. These can serve as evidence of his all-around proficiency in English.
As Mr. Wang‘s supervisor, I‘m very proud of such an excellent student. Meanwhile, as a scholar who had studied in the US, I know clearly that education on computer science in your country is of great importance to students with potentials just like him. Therore, I do hope that Mr. Faradday Wang can be granted with this opportunity. I have every confidence that he will make new achievement in his future studies.
Sincerely yours,
Researcher, Supervisor of Doctoral Candidates
