Transferring successfully to Stanford University is going to be incredibly, incredibly competitive.

Transfer admissions is considerably more competitive than freshman admission to Stanford. And in recent years, the transfer admit rate has ranged from 1 to 4%. This means that between 20 and 35 transfer spaces are typically available each year, and even fewer spaces just students who are transferring internationally.

In addition to those basic requirements, you will also need to stand out from essentially every student at your current university, both inside and outside the classroom. Even doing that will not necessarily guarantee you a spot, but could improve your chances of successfully transferring to Stanford.

Many students attend Stanford summer school, and Stanford simply just doesn t have enough spots to offer all of these students admission in their incoming class. The summer school could put you at a slight advantage in the process because, maybe you have something interesting to write about in your essay that you learned about Stanford while there for the summer program, or let s say you ve done very very well in the program, the admissions committee is able to see that you are essentially up for the challenge and rigor of Stanford-level academic course work.
