　　In fact, more and more Western business schools are developing entire masters programmes inthe area of business ethics. TheUniversity of Nottingham’s Business School and Cambridge University’s Judge Business Schoolboth promote business ethics and corporate governance courses clearly on their websites.

　　The dearth of business ethics education in China is immediately apparent with just a cursoryglance at the local business education currently on offer.

　　The School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua has a course on ethics and corporateaccountability for first-year MBA students. But — sadly — this is a rare sight.

　　At Peking University’s Guanghua School of Business, for example, one sees the usual array ofcore and elective courses based around strategic management, including finance, marketing,information technology and human resource management options. However, nowhere do youcome across anything that even remotely touches on business ethics, corporate governanceor social responsibility. And yet Guanghua is often ranked one of the top business schoolsacross mainland China.

　　The anti-corruption fight might be in full swing at central government level but Chinesebusiness schools now need to step up and contribute with a massive injection of anti-corruption courses. They should be implored to develop and deliver similar courses to thoseoffered at most Western business schools and ensure that these courses are made compulsorychoices, not sidelined as optional electives. In addition, where feasible, business ethicscourses should be overseen, if not taught, by experienced Western business school scholars.

　　Chinese business culture is, in part at least, a rlection of the country’s business educationsector. More business ethics programmes should, therore, lead to a less corrupt Chinesebusiness culture and society.
